DV360 Audio Ads: Programmatic Audio Campaign Management

DV360's audio line item brings music streaming, podcast and live internet radio inventory together in one buying point, from Google Ad Manager and exchanges such as Spotify Ad Exchange, AdsWizz and Triton. Programmatic audio has no viewability metric and clicks are rare, so we do not judge it on the same scorecard as visual channels; we set it up with separate line items by content type and its own goals.

Purpose and appearance

What do we use this format for?

We turn to this line item when we want extra reach and a second touchpoint for the same audience as video and CTV campaigns, in audio streams where there is little competition for the screen. The business goal is to repeat the message to music and podcast listeners during the day and measure awareness change through branded search lift.

Funnel stages it serves

  1. Awareness
  2. Consideration
  3. Conversion
  4. Loyalty

Where DV360 audio inventory comes from

The audio line item can bid on audio inventory in the Google Ad Manager auction as well as exchanges such as Spotify Ad Exchange, AdsWizz, Triton, Magnite DV+, Soundcast, DAX, Equativ and Nexxen. Deals with publishers open up more inventory. Targeting is by content type: music streaming, live AM/FM broadcast, podcast or unknown content.

For campaigns targeting Türkiye, the volume of music streaming, local radio and podcast inventory varies a lot from exchange to exchange. If the target audience mainly listens to Turkish-language podcasts, we first check real volume in the inventory report, then go the deal route. If local audio inventory is the priority, we also consider TheADX audio ads.

DV360 audio line item limits to know

Because of the limits below, we keep audio inventory narrow by publisher and content type. With no brand safety setting, deal-based inventory offers a more controlled start than the open auction. For the same reason, we keep audio line items outside the IO's automated budget allocation, in a separate, manually managed structure.

  • Viewability, brand safety and keyword targeting are not available on this line item.
  • In audio inventory in mobile apps, frequency caps may not apply fully, and third-party brand safety and ads.txt verification are not possible.
  • Audio line items are not compatible with automated budget allocation or click-goal IOs.
  • Google notes that CPMs for audio placements are noticeably higher than standard display and recommends setting bids with video logic.
  • Audio ads on YouTube are bought with a separate line item type (YouTube and partners audio) and must be 30 seconds or shorter.

Podcast vs. music streaming ads: creative and measurement

In DV360, audio creative is easier to manage when split into separate line items by content type. For the podcast line item we use a conversational version that fits the show's flow; for music streaming, a shorter, more rhythmic version. The companion banner gives listeners who use the app while looking at the screen something to click. So we design the banner with the same message and call to action as the audio script.

Audio completion rate and unique reach are the core metrics. We do not read short-term sales impact through conversions but compare branded search lift with seasonal behavior data. When we plan an audio campaign alongside video for the same audience, we keep the creative message consistent on both channels; since Amazon DSP also has audio inventory, we separate overlap between the two platforms at the planning stage.

Audio Ads: when do we recommend it?

We recommend it

  • Categories tied to daily routines, such as sports, automotive, insurance and food delivery
  • Brands that want reach with low screen competition on top of video and CTV campaigns
  • Advertisers with a defined listener profile close to specific podcast genres
  • Brands that want to manage several audio exchanges, such as Spotify Ad Exchange, AdsWizz and Triton, from one DSP

We don't recommend it

  • Brands that must run only on local publisher inventory and keep data in Türkiye
  • Campaigns that require viewability and brand safety reporting
  • Budgets that must be managed inside a click-goal IO; the audio line item does not work with those IOs

Frequently asked questions

Audio Ads: frequently asked questions

What is programmatic audio advertising?

It is buying audio ad slots in music streaming, podcasts and online radio through a DSP rather than directly from each publisher. In DV360 this runs through the audio line item, which bids across several audio exchanges with content type targeting.

Can we buy Spotify ads through DV360?

Spotify Ad Exchange is among the exchanges DV360's audio line item can bid on. We check inventory volume and targeting options for Türkiye in the inventory report before setup, and move to a deal if volume is low or specific content is needed.

How is brand safety handled in audio ads?

DV360's audio line item has no brand safety targeting. So we narrow the content type, set up deals with publishers where possible and exclude unknown content types in the auction. We also trim the publisher list based on the first week's report.

Are YouTube audio ads bought with the same line item?

No. Audio ads on YouTube are bought with a separate line item type, YouTube and partners audio, and must be 30 seconds or shorter. Open web music streaming, podcast and live radio inventory goes through the audio line item; we track the two on separate budgets.

How do you measure audio ad campaigns?

With audio completion rate, unique reach and frequency during the campaign, and with branded search lift and direct traffic compared against seasonal patterns. Companion banner clicks add a smaller, direct signal.
