Pinterest Collections Ads Management

A Collections ad shows one large hero image in the mobile feed with three small product images below it. Tapping it opens a full-screen page where the user can browse up to 24 products. We choose this format when selling a living space or a look: the hero image provides the inspiration, and the products below break it into shoppable pieces.

Purpose and appearance

What do we use this format for?

We use Collections ads to grow basket size for furniture, home textile and fashion brands. We make the pieces in a living room or outfit photo shoppable in one ad and nudge the user to think in sets rather than single products. With the catalog-fed version, each user sees the products closest to their own interests.

Funnel stages it serves

  1. Awareness
  2. Consideration
  3. Conversion
  4. Loyalty

Manual vs. catalog-based Pinterest Collections ads

Pinterest lets you build Collections ads in two ways. In manual setup, we choose the secondary images one by one; this route is open for awareness, consideration and lead objectives. In automatic setup, a product catalog is linked and Pinterest picks the most relevant products for each user; this version works only with the sales objective and uses the same catalog infrastructure as shopping ads.

Which one we choose depends on how tightly the hero image and the products are linked. If the sofa, coffee table and bookcase in a living room photo appear below it, manual selection gives a more consistent look. If we want to reach different interests with the same ad across a large catalog, the catalog version is more efficient.

Pinterest Collections ad specs: hero and secondary images

The first thing we check in Collections creative is ratio consistency. When product images come from different sources, one may be square and another vertical, and the ad looks messy in the feed. In catalog photos, white backgrounds and lifestyle shots can get mixed; we also make sure the secondary images share the same background style. Our pre-launch checklist:

  • The hero image can be 1:1 or 2:3 JPG/PNG; if video is used, it must be MP4, MOV or M4V and at least 4 seconds long.
  • Secondary images must be JPG or PNG only; video and GIF are not accepted.
  • All secondary images must share one ratio; Pinterest recommends 1:1 square. The hero image can use a different ratio.
  • The file size limit is 10 MB per image.
  • For the Max Width Collections version, at least 4 secondary images are recommended.

Which searches we build Collections ads for

In Pinterest's data for Türkiye, home decor searches grew 5% and wedding searches 9% year on year (October 2024 to September 2025). In these categories, searches describe a whole rather than a single product: "living room interior", "Scandinavian style", "modern kitchens", "engagement favors". Collections is the most natural way to show that whole in one ad.

From the full-screen page that opens after a tap, the user moves to the product page. Most of the loss happens there, on the mobile product page; if it loads slowly, the interest the ad created ends there. So before launching Collections, we check product pages for page speed and track the post-click drop with funnel analysis. When there are few products and the story is sequential, a carousel is the better fit.

Collections Ads: when do we recommend it?

We recommend it

  • Brands that sell several products together, such as a room, a look or a table setting
  • Outfit or set sales in furniture, home textiles, fashion and accessories
  • E-commerce sites with an up-to-date product catalog that want to show personalized products under the sales objective

We don't recommend it

  • Brands that sell a single product or whose products share no visual link
  • Sites with slow mobile product pages and a difficult add-to-cart step
  • Campaigns targeting desktop traffic; Collections appears only in the mobile feed

How we manage Collections Ads

  1. Scene selectionFor the hero image, we choose a photo or video that shows the products in a real-use scene.
  2. Manual or catalogIf the goal is sales and the catalog is healthy, we build it automatically; otherwise we select by hand.
  3. Ratio and file checkWe prepare secondary images in one ratio, ideally 1:1, within the 10 MB limit.
  4. Product orderWe put the products most visible in the hero image into the first three secondary slots shown in the feed.
  5. Mobile page checkWe check the speed and stock status of product pages opened from the full-screen view.

Frequently asked questions

Collections Ads: frequently asked questions

What are Pinterest Collections ads?

They are mobile feed ads with one large hero image or video and three smaller product images below. Tapping opens a full-screen page with up to 24 products. They can be built by hand or generated from a product catalog.

Can we use a short room tour video instead of a photo as the hero?

Yes. Pinterest allows MP4, MOV or M4V video of at least 4 seconds in the hero slot; the secondary images below must be JPG or PNG. A short walk through a living room with the sofa, table and lighting shown as still images below works well.

What do we need for catalog-based Collections ads?

An up-to-date product catalog connected to Pinterest, product groups and a campaign with the sales objective. The automatic version is available only with that objective; Pinterest picks the most relevant catalog products for each user. If the catalog has problems, we fix feed errors first.

Do Collections ads show on desktop?

No. Pinterest says Collections ads appear only in the mobile feed, and the full-screen view after a tap is built for mobile. For campaigns that also need desktop users, we run Collections alongside standard or carousel ads and read the device breakdown separately.

What image ratio should Collections secondary images use?

All secondary images must use the same ratio, and Pinterest recommends 1:1 square, up to 10 MB each. The hero image can be 1:1 or 2:3. Matching backgrounds across product images keeps the ad from looking messy in the feed.
