Meta Advantage+ Sales Campaign Management

An Advantage+ sales campaign is a Meta campaign with the Sales objective where budget, audience and placement decisions are left to AI. The former Advantage+ shopping campaign (ASC) moved into this structure in 2025. Handing over control is easy; the hard part is giving the system accurate purchase data and enough genuinely different creative. Most of our work in the account goes into those two things.

Purpose and appearance

What do we use this format for?

We use Advantage+ sales campaigns to scale new customer acquisition for e-commerce brands with steady orders. We leave audience and placement choices to Meta and put our effort into purchase data accuracy and creative variety. We judge success less by the ROAS in Ads Manager and more by incremental revenue from new customers, verified against order data.

Funnel stages it serves

  1. Awareness
  2. Consideration
  3. Conversion
  4. Loyalty

What makes a campaign Advantage+ after the ASC change

Since the 2025 merger, you no longer pick a separate campaign type. When three settings are on together in a Sales campaign, Meta marks the campaign as Advantage+. Turn one off and the campaign reverts to a manual setup, which the interface shows clearly. Having all three on does not mean the campaign is well built; it only shows that decisions are left to Meta. Which event to optimize for, the bid strategy and the creative set are still our decisions.

  • Advantage+ campaign budget: budget at campaign level, with highest volume, cost cap, bid cap or minimum ROAS.
  • Advantage+ audience: only location is required; age and interests, if entered, act as suggestions that guide Meta, not hard limits.
  • Advantage+ placements: no placement is excluded; Threads has been on the list since 2026.
  • Legacy ASC campaigns can no longer be created as of Marketing API v24.0. Old campaigns with more than 50 ads cannot be moved to the new structure automatically, so we rebuild them.

New vs. existing customers in Advantage+ sales campaigns

Left alone, an Advantage+ sales campaign easily leans toward existing customers who are already ready to buy. ROAS looks high, but a large part of those sales would have happened without ads. The existing customer budget cap field from the old ASC has been deprecated in the API; Meta's recommended route is two ad sets in the same campaign, one for new and one for existing customers.

To define existing customers, we set custom audiences such as customer lists, purchasers from the last 180 days and Instagram engagers as audience segments in the ad account. Reports can then show new customer spend and existing customer spend separately. Raising budget on ROAS alone without seeing this split often means selling to loyal customers at a higher cost.

Creative for Advantage+: variety is the targeting

When Meta does the targeting, the creative chooses the audience. In the same campaign, a price-led image finds the deal hunter, a product-in-use video finds someone seeing the product for the first time, and a customer review finds the undecided. So instead of ten ads in the same style, we prepare genuinely different angles and identify the winning ones with our creative analysis.

With a linked catalog, catalog ads can sit alongside static ads. We do not switch on Advantage+ creative enhancements (adding music, image expansion, text variations) in bulk; we choose each one based on whether it fits the brand voice. Image expansion, for example, can fill in the edges of a product photo with AI; if it distorts a fabric pattern or the text on packaging, we turn it off.

Advantage+ account issues we fix before launching new ads

When Advantage+ performance drops, it is easy to blame the algorithm, but the problem is usually in the data it receives and in the campaign structure. Before launching new ads, we go through Events Manager and the campaign structure using the checklist below and make all fixes in one go. Every significant change made piece by piece restarts the campaign's learning phase.

  • The Purchase event fires again every time the thank-you page is refreshed, inflating purchase counts.
  • Five separate Advantage+ campaigns run for the same products; the data is split, so none of them exits learning.
  • The campaign is judged and paused after three days; for products with a buying cycle longer than a week, that is too early.
  • Meta's ROAS is treated as the only truth, with no comparison against GA4 and order data.

Advantage+ Sales Campaigns: when do we recommend it?

We recommend it

  • E-commerce brands receiving at least a few dozen online orders a week
  • Sites that pass purchase value correctly through Pixel and Conversions API
  • Teams that can produce new images and videos every month
  • Brands with a wide product range that want to reach new customers

We don't recommend it

  • Newly opened stores with only a few sales a month; data should first be collected with a more frequent event
  • Brands whose orders come through their stores on Turkish marketplaces and cannot measure purchases on their own site
  • Campaigns that must deliver a message to a specific audience under tight control (e.g. an announcement only for dealers)

How we manage Advantage+ Sales Campaigns

  1. Purchase data testWith test orders, we confirm that Pixel and Conversions API events are deduplicated and that value and currency arrive correctly.
  2. Customer segmentsWe define customer lists and site audiences as audience segments and enable new vs. existing customer reporting.
  3. Campaign consolidationWe merge fragmented campaigns into one structure that collects enough events to learn.
  4. Angle-based creative setWe commission images and videos across price, product-in-use, social proof and problem-solution angles.
  5. Incrementality measurementBefore large budget decisions, we measure real contribution with Meta's experiment tools or a geo split test and log the result in our growth experiments backlog.

Frequently asked questions

Advantage+ Sales Campaigns: frequently asked questions

What happened to Advantage+ shopping campaigns (ASC)?

In 2025 they moved into Advantage+ sales campaigns. A Sales campaign now counts as Advantage+ when campaign budget, Advantage+ audience and Advantage+ placements are all on. Legacy ASC campaigns cannot be created via the API any more and have been read-only or paused since May 2026, so we rebuild them in the new structure.

Can we set age and interests in an Advantage+ sales campaign?

You can, but in Advantage+ audience these preferences are not hard limits; Meta goes beyond them when it finds better results. Where a hard limit is needed, such as products that can only be sold to people over 18, we set required controls like minimum age and location separately.

Should we turn off our manual sales campaigns?

Usually not. We leave new customer and general sales volume to the Advantage+ structure and keep small manual campaigns for controlled work, such as launching a specific collection or an offer for a single audience. We watch the reports for overlap between the two on the same audience.

Can we limit the budget that goes to existing customers?

The percentage cap from the old ASC has been deprecated in the API. Instead, we set up separate ad sets for new and existing customers and split the budget accordingly. With audience segments defined, you see the spend for both groups separately in reports.

Why does Meta's ROAS differ from GA4 and our order data?

Meta counts conversions with its own attribution, and issues like a Purchase event firing on page refresh can inflate it further. We deduplicate Pixel and Conversions API events, then compare Meta's figures with GA4 and actual orders before making budget decisions.
