Advantage+ Sales Campaigns
A sales campaign that leaves budget, audience and placements to Meta's AI. Accurate purchase data and creative variety decide the result.
ExploreTraffic and Engagement are Meta's mid-funnel campaign objectives. Traffic sends people to a website, app or Instagram profile; Engagement collects video views, post engagement, conversations or event responses. Used for the wrong job, both deliver results that are cheap but empty. We do not use them as a substitute for sales campaigns; we set them up to build the audiences and content that feed sales.
We use Traffic and Engagement campaigns in accounts without enough purchase data yet, to build relevant visitor and viewer audiences, distribute content and warm people up for sales campaigns. We do not expect direct sales from them; instead, we measure how the audiences they create contribute to conversions in later sales and lead campaigns.
Funnel stages it serves
Under the Traffic objective, the default choice is usually link clicks. Meta then finds people likely to click, but not everyone who clicks sees the page. The user may have tapped by accident or gone back before the page loaded. Landing page views count only visits where the Pixel fires on the page, steering Meta toward people who actually wait for the page to load. That is why we choose this performance goal on every site with the Pixel installed.
The gap between the two figures also tells us something: if the difference between clicks and page views is large, we usually find the problem on the site, especially in mobile load speed. We do not increase the traffic budget before fixing slow-loading pages through page speed work. Because the same issue affects sales campaigns, this fix usually lifts the efficiency of the entire Meta account.
We use the Traffic objective in four situations: on new sites that do not have enough purchase data for the Sales objective, when distributing blog and guide content, when driving visits to an Instagram profile, and when we need to grow a retargeting audience. We keep UTM parameters standard in every Traffic campaign and read what incoming visitors do on the site through engaged sessions and scroll depth in GA4.
The Engagement objective works with different conversion locations: the ad itself (video views, post engagement, event responses), messaging, calls, website or app. An ad optimized for post engagement finds people inclined to like and comment, and this audience often does not overlap with buyers. We see this clearly in posts inflated by giveaway comments.
The real jobs we use the Engagement objective for are building video viewer audiences, collecting attendance for events or store openings, and taking a post that performs well organically to a wider audience. When choosing a standout organic post, we look at save and share rates more than at likes; these two signals show whether content is genuinely useful better than likes do.

ExploreTraffic sends people somewhere: a website, app, messaging thread, Instagram profile or call. Engagement collects interaction with the ad itself, such as video views, post engagement or event responses, or with messaging and calls. We choose based on which audience the campaign needs to build for later sales campaigns.
The Traffic objective asks Meta to find users likely to click; purchase intent is not part of that calculation. If you expect sales, the campaign belongs under the Sales objective. We use Traffic only for content distribution and building retargeting audiences, optimized for landing page views.
Landing page views, wherever the Pixel is installed. They only count visits where the Pixel fires on the page, so Meta learns to find people who wait for the page to load. A large gap between clicks and page views usually points to a slow mobile site.
It does not deliver the same result. The in-app boost button is quick, but its objective, placement and measurement options are limited. We run the same post as an existing post in Ads Manager with the right objective, Pixel measurement and audience capture, so engagement still builds up on the original post.
It can indirectly, but we do not target follower count. Followers alone do not drive sales, and with limited organic reach, followers gained through ads may not see later posts regularly. We use Engagement campaigns to build video viewer and engager audiences, then put those audiences to work in sales and lead campaigns.
